Kentucky officials say the surge from the Omicron variant could be close to peaking.
The state is coming off another record week of new COVID-19 cases. The cautious optimism is based on the duration of omicron surges elsewhere.
Dr. Steven Stack, Kentucky’s public health commissioner, Monday pointed to other places where the span from the start of the surge to the peak was about three weeks. He said Kentucky’s vaccination rate is lower compared with those places, which could mean a “wider spike.”
Stack said that still should mean over the next week or two, Kentuckians should start seeing the back side of the escalation.
