Trigg County is one of twelve counties selected for a random inquiry of election practices during the recent primary.

Their name was drawn Wednesday by Assistant Deputy Attorney Amy Burke from a miniature bourbon barrel to be included in the process.

The inquiry is required by state law to check ten percent of the counties for any possibility of criminal conduct or irregularities. Detectives will be assigned who will interview members of the board of elections, county officials and poll workers.

The Attorney General’s office will present its findings to grand juries and chief circuit judges in each selected county. Inquiries could take four or five months to complete.

“This process helps ensure election integrity and transparency in the Commonwealth,” said Burke.

The other counties selected for the inquiry are Boyd, Boyle, Bracken, Clay, Clinton, Cumberland, Harrison, Hopkins, Madison, Nelson and Owsley.

State law prohibits counties from being the subject of two consecutive inquiries. Last election, Christian and Webster counties were selected.
