Maurice Lee Pearcy, 96, of Brookport, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026.
Maurice was born on August 18, 1929, in the Ashbyburg community in Hopkins County Kentucky. His father Edward B. and mom Emma moved the family to Massac County when he was a young child and raised he and his siblings Edward Ray, Sue, Inas, and Verla in the Unionville area. He was a veteran of the Korean war. Maurice married Sylvia Adkinson in 1955, and Terry, Karen and Tim were born to them. He moved the family to Brookport in 1969. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and took great pride in his career until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Local 181 for 74 years. He was a Christian and was baptized at Brookport Baptist Church in 1977. His faith was reflected in the love and dedication he showed to his family. He spent his life serving and leading his family by example.
Maurice was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sylvia Jaquline Pearcy (Adkinson) and his daughter, Karen Jean Moss, his parents and siblings.
He is survived by his sons, Terry Lee Pearcy (Jan), and Timothy Scott Pearcy (Sherri) his son-in-law Randy Moss; and his cherished grandchildren: Joni Reed (Stan), Beth McClain (Kevin), Travis Pearcy (Ashley), Ben Pearcy (Rohit), Joe Pearcy (Kelsey), Riley Pearcy (Madalyn), Emma Stoffel (Tyler), Hudson Pearcy (Zoie), and Hope Pearcy. He was also blessed with 18 great-grandchildren and one more on the way, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Maurice loved his family deeply and treasured the time spent with them. He also found great peace and happiness in fishing, a pastime that brought him many quiet moments of reflection and countless memories shared with loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, at Brookport Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Services will be provided by Loftus-McManus Brookport Funeral Home.
Maurice will be remembered for his fun-loving and kind spirit, amazingly hardworking character and strength, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the generations who carry forward his values of faith, dedication, and devotion.
