Mr. James “Jimmy” Levander Barnes, 81, of Salem, KY, community of Lola, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at his home.
Mr. Barnes was born May 4, 1940, to John and Thelma Woodyard Barnes in Crittenden County, KY. He was a retired self-employed business operator, having owned and operated Jim’s Ashland in Lola, KY, which he acquired in 1984. He was an avid UK Basketball and Cardinal Baseball fan. Fishing and playing pool were his favorite leisure activities. Family and grandchildren were very special to him.
Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Loyd Barnes of Salem, KY; son: James Steven Barnes and his wife Shelia of Salem, KY; daughters: Anita Ross and her husband, Dr. Luke Ross of Paducah, KY and Penny Kitchens and her husband David of Salem, KY; 7 grandchildren: Stephanie Barnes, Stacy Williams, Candace Spiceland, Kayla Hendley. Lucas Ross, Cameron Kitchens, and Carson Kitchens; and 8 great grandchildren: Kaylee Williams, Griffin Strout, Emma Kate Barnes-Wring, Cade Williams, Harper Hendley, Slade Spiceland, Hattie Hendley, and Salem Spiceland.
He was preceded in death by his brother, George Barnes; and parents, John Barnes and Thelma Turley.
Funeral services will be Sunday, January 23, 2022, at 2 PM, in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors and Cremation Services. Burial will follow in Lola Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from Sunday, from 11 AM until the funeral hour, in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors and Cremation Services.
