Bro. Johnnie W. Sphinx

Bro. Johnnie W. Sphinx, 98 of Gilbertsville, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, Kentucky.

Born Tuesday, December 21, 1926 in Gilbertsville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late John W. Sphinx and the late Daisy Lee Howard  Sphinx. He was a carpenter and very skilled at his craft. Bro. Johnnie was also a pastor at various churches for 26 years. He was a member of Sharpe Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching every Sunday in his Sunday School Class and loved his church family very much. Bro. Johnnie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Surviving are son, Bro. David Sphinx (Machelle)of Mayfield, KY; 10 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Allen Sphinx; by daughters, Lucille Sphinx and Deborah Heino;  brothers, Ardell Birdsong and Ethel Birdsong; sisters, Lucille Terry, Luella Provine, Margaret Downing and Mabel Darnall.

Funeral Services will be Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 3pm at Collier Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Sphinx and Bro. Chris Moore officiating.

Burial to follow at Malcum Howard Family Cemetery on Moor's Camp Road.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Collier Funeral Home, Inc. located at 211 West 5th Street Benton, KY 42025. 270-527-3141.
