Coleen Barnes Stefanow, 89, of Benton, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026 at Passion and Purpose Hospice Care Home in Almo, Kentucky.

Coleen was born in Holiday, Tennessee on April 1, 1937 to Troy and Beaulah (Eaves) Barnes. She was a teacher's aide at Benton Elementary for 19 years until her retirement. Coleen loved moments when she was able to take a moment to enjoy life at a slower pace, she would spend her free time reading or baking and cooking for those that she loved. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and her heart was most full when spending time with them.

Coleen is survived by her husband of 22 years, Steve Stefanow of Benton; three sons, Jamie Freeland (Betsy) of Charleston, South Carolina, Shane Freeland (Trish) of Benton, and Chris Freeland (Lori) of Benton; one daughter, Laurie Hendrickson (Rich) of Benton; two step-daughters, Valerie Sullivan (Jay) of Mayfield and Sarah Sheppard (John) of Arizona; two sisters, Norma Jean Jones and Sue Kloes; 14 grandchildren, Meredith Poppins, Nathan Freeland, Addie Freeland, Owen Hendrickson, Haylee Hendrickson, Drake Jackson, Leiren Jackson, Cayce Griffith, Cody Hendrickson, Jack Sullivan, Liam Sullivan, Emily Klapp, Tristan Barrett, and Bronson Sheppard; one great- grandchild, Aubrey Griffith; as well as a large extended family.

Coleen was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at Collier Funeral Home, 211 W. 5th Street, Benton, KY 42025 at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026 with Drake Jackson officiating.

Visitation will be held from  1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at Collier Funeral Home.
