Doug Cox, 70, of Benton, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026 at his home.
Doug was born in Fountainebleau, France on January 10, 1956 to Jerome and Josephine Sledd Cox. Doug was a proud United States Navy Veteran, serving as a heavy equipment operator in the Navy Seabees. 48 years ago, Doug took the knowledge he gained serving in the military and joined IUOE Local 181. Through the years, he operated heavy equipment for many contractors in the area. Before retirement, he was employed pushing coal at TVA Shawnee Steamplant.
Doug loved riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, and rode whenever he had the time. He was happiest with the wind in his beard and the open road in front of him.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Luanne Cox; his daughter, Chelsea Free (Blake); and two grandchildren, Abigail and Colton Free, all of Benton, Kentucky.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Josephine Cox; and his brother, Joe David Cox.
Per Doug’s wishes, there will be no public service.
