Gale Kenith Canup

Gale Kenith Canup, 82 of Benton, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at his home.

Gale was born at home in Marshall County, Kentucky on September 15, 1943 to the late Lewis "Summie" Canup and Elizabeth Rose Canup.  He worked as a self-employed carpenter with a strong work ethic.  Gale truly was a  jack-of-all-trades.  From fixing cars to building houses, there was nothing he could not fix.  Beyond his work, he was a devoted car enthusiast who found joy in engines, craftsmanship and the stories behind them.  Gale had a deep love for his grandkids and great-grandkids.  He was of the Baptist faith. 

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Audrie "Jean" Morris Canup; sons, Kenny Canup (Julie) of Benton, KY and Mitchell Canup (Kelli-Lynn) of Nicholasville, KY; daughter, Lisa Sykes (Chuck) of Benton, KY; sister, Brenda Jordan of Murray, KY; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Canup; nephew, Michael Jordan; brother, Donald Wayne Canup; sister, Glenda Rudolph; and his parents.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Collier Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Daryl Thorn officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Kirksey, KY.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, Kentucky.
