It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joe Thomas McCord announce his passing on March 17, 2026, at Rivers Bend Retirement Community in Kuttawa, KY.
Lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Norma (McDonald) McCord, his daughter Angela (Ricky) Butts and son Greg (Lynda) McCord. He was blessed with three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Joe was born on April 17, 1936 in Hopkinsville, KY. He was preceded by his parents Harvey and Jesse (O’ Brien) McCord, five sisters: Naomi Willis, Mary Bundy, Norma Dobbins, Frances Anstaett and Betty West, also two brothers Woodrow and Bobby McCord.
Joe served his country by enlisting in the army and later graduated from Austin Peay University. He was best known for his love of sports and his teaching/coaching career spanned many years and various schools. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed bird hunting and fishing. Joe was a member of the KY Lake Cowboy Church.
His true legacy was not based on accomplishments but on relationships. The countless students he impacted, the family he held dear, the grandbabies he rocked, the friends he entertained with his boundless wit and the many lives he touched through his generosity.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th Street, Benton, KY 42025. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
