Karen Mae Duchoslav
February 17, 1945 - June 3, 2026

Karen Mae Duchoslav, born February 17, 1945, in Chicago, was a woman whose presence simply sparkled. Karen passed away on June 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, creativity, music, and unwavering love.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tobias "Dutch" Duchoslav; her parents, Santa "Sandy" Wolske and Vernon Wolske; her brother, Vernon Wolske; her sister, Vivian Bernd; and her sons, Michael Reilly and Tracy Reilly.

Karen is survived by her loving daughters, Gina Reilly Wills and Serina Steglich; her sister, Vallarie Clegg; her cherished grandchildren, Felicia Hickey, Tori Wills, Kevin Lemke, Anthony Lemke, and Dylan Leudeman, along with many other beloved grandchildren and treasured great-grandchildren; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and her trusty sidekicks, Mustang and Chevy, who rarely left her side.

Anyone who knew Karen knew she was spunky, full of life, and rarely seen without her hair perfectly done, a stylish outfit, and just the right touch of glitter. In true Karen fashion, there was always a little extra shine wherever she went.

Karen found tremendous joy and friendship through her TOPS program and her beloved mah-jongg group, where she built lasting friendships and countless memories over the years. She became known for the songs, skits, and performances she lovingly orchestrated for gatherings and celebrations. A gifted writer with a vivid imagination, she created countless cherished memories for her family - especially at Christmas, when she had her grandchildren perform little skits that became beloved family traditions still remembered with laughter and love today.

Karen loved teaching her children and grandchildren the games she enjoyed most, especially mah-jongg, rummy, Shanghai rummy, and Spoons. Whether gathered around the kitchen table laughing through friendly competition or sharing stories between hands, those moments became treasured memories for generations of her family.

She also had a special love for grooming dogs, especially poodles, and was well known for her beloved dog, Lotti, who became quite famous in the area. Karen had a natural way with animals and took great pride in the care and love she gave them.
Karen spent much of her career in the restaurant industry, waitressing at numerous locations throughout Florida and Illinois before eventually settling in Kentucky. She also proudly owned and operated Rustic Gardens Restaurant in Gardner, Illinois, where she shared not only meals, but her warmth and hospitality with the community she loved.

Later in life, Karen embraced the peaceful lifestyle of Kentucky Lake with her husband Dutch , where their beautiful property became the backdrop to so many treasured family memories.
Surrounded by nature, flowers, and seasonal decorations she lovingly changed throughout the year, the drive down her lane always felt magical. Summers were spent fishing, swimming in the pool, riding golf carts far too fast, and hearing Karen and Dutch calling from the porch for everyone to slow down. She loved flowers deeply and took pride in making every season feel beautiful and welcoming.

Karen lived with creativity, humor, sparkle, resilience, and deep love for her family. And while we all wish we could "turn back time," as she would so often sing, we know her laughter, traditions, and vibrant spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
