Linda Austin Smith, 72, of Calvert City, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah. She was a devoted member of Crossroads Methodist Church, where her faith played an important role in her life. In recent years, she especially enjoyed serving others through the church’s card ministry, sharing encouragement, kindness, and love with those who needed it most.

Born Tuesday, February 16th, 1954, in Paducah, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late James Austin and Alice Allen Austin.

Above all, Linda cherished her family and especially loved being a Nana. She could often be found in the stands or along the sidelines, proudly cheering on her grandchildren as they competed in a variety of sports and activities. She loved traveling to different states to watch them play and was always one of their biggest supporters, encouraging them in whatever they chose to pursue. If she was unable to attend her grandkids games, you could guarantee she was watching them online, never wanting to miss a moment.

Linda looked forward to her visits to Phoenix, where she could spend precious time with her grandchildren who lived there. But even more than that, she loved when they came to Kentucky each summer, bringing her children and grandchildren together at Kentucky Lake. Some of her happiest memories were made surrounded by the people she loved most—camping, boating, fishing, laughing, and making memories at Malcolm Creek Resort, where her family has camped since 1989.

Linda also had a special love for dogs, who brought her endless joy, comfort, and companionship throughout her life. Her love for her family, her grandchildren, and all the simple moments they shared will remain a cherished part of her legacy.

Linda is survived by her husband of 52 years, David Smith, son Derek and daughter-in-law Lindsey, daughter-in-law Chelsea, grandchildren Kye, Deacon, Rae, and Davin, stepsister Tammy Damm, and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, all of whom she held dear to her heart.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Clara Austin, son Daniel Smith, brother Mike Austin, sister-in-law Christine Austin, nephew Brian Austin, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home in Benton, Kentucky. The family welcomes friends and loved ones for visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25th at Crossroads Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Reverend Chris Lewis will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Linda's memory to the Humane Society of Marshall County, PO Box 531, Benton, KY 42025 or Crossroads Methodist Church, PO Box 184, Calvert City, KY 42029.
