Marcia Lynn Widmer, 73, of Benton, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025 comfortably at her home.
Marcia (Marcie) was born in Denver, Colorado at St. Lukes Hospital on March 15, 1952 to the late Milford and Meta Hockemeyer. Marcie served her country faithfully in the US Army in which she was eventually honorably discharged with the rank of captain.
She worked as a nurse from 1974-2018, in which the majority of her time was spent as a hospice nurse for Lourdes Mercy Health. Marcie was instrumental in the development of the hospice program in Western KY. Her meekness and loving heart was witnessed by hundreds of families over the years throughout our region. After her retirement in 2018, Marcie would constantly run into the myriad of families that her life touched through her compassion and would frequently be greeted with tearful comments such as,“ You were the nurse that took care of my mother, father, my little girl, my grandfather or grandmother in their final days and made sure that their transition was pain free and that they were comfortable surrounded by their loved ones at home. Thank you for everything you did.”
Marcie’s servant’s heart wasn’t limited to her professional career. She epitomized love and compassion in everything that did. She gave of herself to serve her family, her church, and her community. Her generosity was seen through her baking cookies, writing cards, and many other simple acts of grace that profoundly impacted the lives of those she loved so fiercely.
Marcie was a faithful member of Christian Fellowship Church. She served Jesus and her church family with her whole heart and exemplified what the life of a Christ-follower should look like. She stood in faith and worship of Jesus until her last breath. Well done good and faithful servant!
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gregory Charles Widmer; son, Peter Widmer of Paducah, KY; daughter, Jenny Clendenen (husband Rev. Richie Clendenen) of Benton, KY; two grandsons, Richard III (Trey) and Liam Clendenen of Benton, KY; and nephew, Mike Hockemeyer of Pleasant Hill, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milford and Meta Hockemeyer; and sister Sandra Hockemeyer.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 17, at Christian Fellowship Church with Rev. Richie Clendenen and Hospice Chaplain Brent Easton officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 Monday, June 16 at Collier’s Funeral Home and also on Tuesday, June 17 at Christian Fellowship Church from 12:00-2:00.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to World Missions and Evangelism in her honor @ P.O. Box 790, Benton, KY 42025.
