Mark Joseph Kunnecke, age 70, passed away at Riverbend Retirement Community in Kuttawa, KY on February 20, 2026.
Mark was born in Paducah, KY. He was the fourth of five sons born to James H. and Dorothy (Brasher) Kunnecke. He was raised in Calvert City, KY and graduated from North Marshall High School. After high school, Mark pursued a degree at Murray State University.
Mark was a talented musician who played horns, guitars and keyboards. Eventually, he pursued a full-time career as a keyboardist for bands in Nashville, TN. New opportunities led him to move out west where he played for bands in Washington State and Alaska. He eventually gave up a full-time musical career and to work for the The Boeing Company, building aircraft for 27 years. His weekend hobbies included mountain biking. His retirement hobbies still included playing music as well as being a Seattle Seahawks football fan. Mark had a quick wit, was a faithful friend and generous to his family.
He is survived by his brothers, Mike of Concho, AZ, Pat (Melody) of Bella Vista, AR, and Bill (Karen) of Calvert City, KY. He is also survived by four nieces and two nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father, James H. Kunnecke, his mother, Dorothy B. Kunnecke, and a brother, Robert S. Kunnecke.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, March 27, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvert City Cemetery.
