Martha Katherine Coursey

Martha Katherine Coursey, 91, of Benton, KY passed away on May 10, 2022, at Lake Way Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Benton. Katherine was born on November 16, 1930, in Benton, the daughter of the late Roscoe Breezeel and the late Mary (Reid) Breezeel. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Benton. She worked for many years as a nursing assistant at the former Marshall County Hospital Long Term Care facility.
Survivors include her daughter, Mickie Vecera of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren, Ben Vecera (Molly), Mikala Foster (Deangelo), Tyler Coursey (Alison), Ricky Freeman (Ami), Shawn Coursey; great grandchildren, Abe and Daria Vecera, Miles Morgan, Lennox Foster, Tripp Freeman, and Silas Coursey; her sister, Geraldine Barnes; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her two sons, Mike and Ricky Coursey, and sisters Lena Jo Taylor and Magdalene Henson.
Katherine was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be so deeply missed by her family and the many others who loved her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her attitude was always a positive one no matter what challenges she faced. She loved life and was thankful for every day she was given. She considered her children the light of her life and nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed the simple things of life such as sitting in her backyard swing reading a good book with a cup of coffee, listening to country music, caring for her many cats, and feeding the birds. She took great pride in her job as a nursing assistant over the many years she worked. She worried about her patients on her days off if they had not been doing well and often took in small gifts to give to those who did not have family who visited because she did not want them to feel forgotten.

Katherine's family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and support staff at Lake Way Nursing Center who provided such wonderful care and support during her many years as a resident at the facility, especially during the last few years when her illness made life so difficult for her. The family would also like to thank Mercy Health Hospice of Paducah for the wonderful care and support provided over the past year.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of Marshall County, Kentucky.
Katherine's wishes will be honored in that there will be no public visitation or service. A private family graveside service will be held at Ford Cemetery with Collier Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
