It is with heavy hearts but an uplifted spirit that we announce the passing of Noble Stanley (Stan) Marshall 82 years, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on June 4, 2025, at Lakeway Nursing in Benton, Kentucky. Born on October 31, 1942, in Gilbertsville, Kentucky, Stan lived a remarkable life, filled with love, purpose, and service.
His memory will forever be held close by his devoted wife, Phyllis Marshall, whom he married on June 28, 1986, and by his three loving daughters: Lisa Boone (David) of Kingston Springs, Tennessee, Angel Harris (Justin) of Gilbertsville, Kentucky, and Amanda Hammonds of Paducah, Kentucky. He is also survived by his sister, Vannie Lou Marshall of Gilbertsville, and his adored grandchildren: Byron Hopkins, Sybil Georgia Terpstra, Robert Blackmon, Brendan Blackmon, and Morgan Blackmon.
Stan was the cherished son of Noble and Thelma Marshall, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the grandson of Rashe and Martha Howard Marshall, and Vance and Nannie Williams Heath. He was also preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lori Hopkins, and his granddaughters, Melissa Hopkins and Chaney Grace Kaylee Corley.
Stan was a man of God who understood the profound impact of sharing Jesus with everyone he encountered. He dedicated his life to serving others, offering his time generously to both friends and strangers. He graduated from North Marshall High School in 1960 and attended Murray State University for two years, where he was a member of the ROTC.
A true son of the land, Stan was born in the very house he lived in for 82 years, deeply rooted in the traditions and values of his family in Gilbertsville. His passion for farming was evident as he worked alongside his grandfather and father, attending to the cattle and land. Stan held a full-time job as a Chemical Operator at Air Products and Westlake in Calvert City, Kentucky, but his heart always belonged to the farm. Remarkably, he expanded his agricultural endeavors, purchasing additional farms, maintaining rental properties that he ensured were affordable for his tenants, and growing his campground upon retirement 25 yrs ago.
Stan had a unique and wicked sense of humor, and those who knew him were well aware of his aversion to marshmallows and sticky substances, which became the source of many playful pranks. He had a passion for collecting pennies to fund scripture pages, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his faith and the teachings he cherished.
His dedication extended beyond his family; Stan felt a deep calling to assist those entangled with the court system, providing jobs and homes to many in need. He was an active member of Pathway Baptist Church, where his faith flourished among his brothers in Christ. He found joy in fellowship, particularly in sharing meals and conversations, and he worked tirelessly to ensure that children attending church camp had the means to enjoy their experience.
The funeral service for Noble Stanley Marshall will be held at Pathway Baptist Church in Calvert City, Kentucky, on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 1:00 PM following a viewing that will begin at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Provine Cemetery in Benton, KY immediately after the service. In honor of Stan's legacy, donations may be made to the Pathway Baptist Church Building Fund.
Stan's life was a testament to his faith, kindness, and generosity. He will be profoundly missed but will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in the Lord, reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him. He will always be remembered for his love and compassion.
