Carolyn Carraway Farris, 86, of Benton, Kentucky passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022, peacefully at her place of residence with her loving daughter and son in law at her side.

Carolyn was born to the late Tellus “Chig” and Lena Sue Valentine Carraway in Murray, Kentucky. She attended Murray State University where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and sang in the college choir.

After college Carolyn went on to work her way through the ranks in her life long career at Air Products in Calvert City. She started as a switchboard operator and retired as the Executive Admin to the plant manager.

After retirement Carolyn moved to Florida for a number of years where she began a new career selling fruit for a large scale fruit farm and again working her way to the top in position. She was known for her work ethic and always finding ways to keep busy. Upon her return to Kentucky she went on to volunteer her time at the Marshall County Hospital and the Quilt Museum.
Additionally, she also loved volunteering her time at several of the area Churches of Christ that she attended over the years.

Carolyn enjoyed traveling and some of her favorite trips were those in which her whole family traveled along. Florida and the Smoky Mountains were a couple of her more favorite places to visit. She also enjoyed collecting handmade Amish quilts and music boxes.

She is survived by daughter, Teena Purvis Hack (Thomas Joe) of Benton; one brother, Solon “Sodie” Carraway of Arizona; two grandchildren, Adam Paul Hack (Ashley) of Benton, Kentucky and Summer Renee Svec (Daniel) of Florida; four great grandchildren, Emma Hack, Ellie Hack, Bella Hack, and Gracie Svek; one nephew, Jason Carraway of Colorado; and niece, Karen Carraway of Tennessee.

Carolyn was preceded in death by husbands, Paul A. Purvis, Bob McCrady, and James Farris; her sons, Michael Dean Purvis and “infant” son Gregory Purvis; brother, Tommy Carraway and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105 or Marshall County Humane Society, 6301 US Hwy 68E, Benton, Kentucky, 42025.

Private memorial services for Carolyn will be held at a later date.
