David L. Fields, 71, of Calvert City, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.

David was born to the late Norman Fields and Jean Hoover Luttrell on December 28, 1953, in Indiana.  For over three remarkable decades, David was a pillar of diligence and expertise in the maritime industry, where his last role served was as a Senior Port Engineer for Marquette. His commitment and passion for the field were unmatched, as evidenced by the entirety of his 51-year maritime career. His colleagues revered him as a dedicated teacher, mentor, and friend.

He was known as a "jack of all trades" and had a gift for fixing anything. David enjoyed piddling around the house and long back-road drives. Above all, the words that best encapsulate David are loving, handy, and selfless. He selflessly poured into the lives of those around him, making each encounter a testament to his generous spirit and tender heart.

David is survived by his wife of 23 years, Susan LeCompte Fields; Four children, Bradley Michael LeCompte (Amber) of Yakima, Washington, Blake Matthew Shifter of West Paducah, Kentucky, Alexa Leigh Shelton (J.D.) of Carriere, Mississippi and Alyson Lynn Fields of Princeton, Kentucky; and four grandchildren, Aiden Shelton, Baylee Shelton, Peyton Shelton, and Alex LeCompte.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Fields and Jean Hoover Luttrell; and stepfather, Ancil Luttrell.
