Geneva Bowling, 80, of Calvert City, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2025, at Marshall County Hospital in Benton, Kentucky.
Geneva was born to the late Charlie and Siller Shepherd Roark on January 17, 1944, in Leslie County, Kentucky. Geneva was a beautician who owned her own salon, the Kurl Shop, for over 20 years. It was a privilege to sit in her salon chair, not only to receive hair care but also to enjoy her outgoing and funny personality. When she wasn’t in the salon, you could find her scouring antique shops and auctions for historical treasures to add to her ever-growing collection.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lodge #543. The values of the organization, “Charity, Truth, and Loving Kindness,” were right in line with the kind of person Geneva was. She was a simple person who didn’t care for all the frills, being flashy, or going over the top, as nothing could get any better than the life she and her husband, Philip, had built and lived together for the last 64 years with their two sons. Geneva was also a member of Zion's Cause Baptist Church in Benton, Kentucky.
Geneva is survived by her husband, Philip Bowling, of Calvert City; two sons, Ronnie Bowling of Louisville, Kentucky, and Bryan Bowling (Talisha) of Calvert City; one sister, Tammy Reed (Carl); one brother, Ronnie Roark; two grandchildren, Blake Warford and Lacey Nesler (Jacob); and five great grandchildren, Linkin, Kamryn, Laney, Kyler, and Destiny.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Sawyer; one sister, Ruby Roark; five brothers, Raymond Roark, Kenneth Roark, Charles Roark, Hubert Roark, and Johnny Roark; and her parents, Charlie and Siller Shepherd Roark.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
