Gerald Lewis Wilkins,78, of Hardin, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 18, 2026, at Spring Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation in Murray, Kentucky.
Gerald was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 26, 1947, to the late Lawrence Everett Wilkins and Ida Mae Dennison Wilkins. From a young age, Gerald had a passion for cars and anything that could go fast. His love for automobiles eventually led him to pursue a career as an auto mechanic. One of his proudest accomplishments was the time he spent helping build race cars for NASCAR, a chapter of his career that he remembered with great pride.
Outside of his work, Gerald enjoyed the simpler things in life, especially tending to his vegetable garden. He also cherished the time he spent with others, whether gathering with his group of friends for breakfast each morning or simply enjoying good conversation and fellowship. With his great sense of humor and quick-witted personality, Gerald loved making others laugh and treasured the many friendships he made throughout his life. Above all else, Gerald was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His kindness, humor, and friendship will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Shayna Toledo of Houston, Texas; one great-grandson, Tyler Toledo of Houston, Texas; and several other family members.
He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Sherry Wilkins and Tammy Adams; and his parents, Lawrence Everett Wilkins and Ida Mae Wilkins.
