James Don Sirls, 83, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.
James was born on May 17, 1943, to the late Olis “Oat” Sirls and Willie Mae Timmons Sirls. He was a hardworking man whose life was filled with faith, a love for the outdoors, and, most importantly, his family.
After graduating from South Marshall High School in 1962, James began working at the Tappan Stove Plant in Murray, Kentucky, where he spent 17 years. He later worked for Fisher-Price, which became Mattel, for another 20 years before retiring. Outside of work, James enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and family. He also had a passion for music and was a talented thumbpick guitarist. One of his special memories was winning a Taylor guitar at a thumbpicker’s convention.
James was a man of strong faith who was baptized in the 1970s and remained a longtime member of Fairdealing Church of Christ. In addition to his musical talents, he was known for making delicious homemade candy and fudge, which he loved sharing with friends and family.
Above all, James treasured his family. His grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart, bringing him great joy and making some of his most cherished memories. His love for his family, his faith, and the simple pleasures of life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharon Leach Sirls of Benton; one daughter, Michiale Lynn Sutton of Benton; two sons, Danny Shane Sirls (Barbie) of Benton and Jason Kell Sirls of Benton; his sister, Susie Mae Lamb of Benton; his brother, Bobby K. Sirls of Benton; five grandchildren, Kelly Ra-Anne Suiter, Sean Sutton, Skyler Sutton, Christain Sirls Wallace, and Tyler Shane Sirls; four great-grandchildren, Reagan Skinner, Mya Oldham, Presley Sirls, and Priscilla Wallace; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one daughter, Kelly Beth Sirls; and one nephew, Trinity Leach.
