Jim McAllister, 86, of Benton, Kentucky, and formerly of Murray, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Calvert City Nursing and Rehab.
Jim was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 22, 1939, to the late Gilbert McAllister and Margaret Wilkinson McAllister. He was a proud graduate of Creighton Prep High School and Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who always took great pride in being able to serve his country. As a man of faith, Jim was also a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
Jim spent many years working as an accountant before his retirement. He was a dedicated member of the Elk Grove Village Lions Club in Illinois for 25 years, and also served for eight years on the Roselle Library Board. He was an avid golfer, and in his spare time enjoyed playing bridge and sudoku. He loved listening to 50's music, savoring a good glass of wine, and telling jokes with his friends and family, or being outdoors mowing his four acres of land. Above all else, he loved and was devoted to his family and enjoyed bragging to everyone about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to everyone he met.
Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice Snell McAllister of Benton; his daughter, Collette Stack (Bill) of Schaumburg, Illinois; his son, Allen McAllister of Antioch, Illinois; one brother, Gregory McAllister (Deanna) of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Brian Stack (Samantha), Katie Stack (Mike Goodman), Kevin Stack (Audrey), and Ronald Belangel; two great-grandchildren, Parker Stack and Laiken Stack; and his daughter-in-law, Violetta McAllister.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert James McAllister; one grandson, Maximilian McAllister, and his parents, Gilbert and Margaret McAllister.
