Mamie Jo Nimmo, 88, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Lake Way Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mamie Jo was born on January 5, 1937, to the late William “Bill” Castleberry and Lillie Pearl Tubbs Castleberry. Even at a young age, Mamie Jo was no stranger to hard work. Early in her life, she began working as a waitress at the age of 14 and later went on to work as a manufacturer at Ashby Chair Company in Benton. After years of working at Ashby, she went on to work for Murray Clothing, and Tappan Stove Factory before eventually retiring from Sager Glove Corporation.

Mamie Jo’s hard work and dedication was also apparent in many of the things she enjoyed the most. Whether she was tending to her gardens, canning her vegetables, sewing, or cooking, Mamie Jo poured all of her heart into everything that she did while still finding the time to volunteer at places like Marcella’s Kitchen. However, her faith in the Lord and her family were the most significant cornerstones of her life. She was a member of Kentucky Lake Cowboy Church and most recently, returned to being a member at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. As a devoted Christian, she always found ways to volunteer and be active within her church, while making sure to never miss out on the opportunity to enjoy her morning or nightly devotionals. Mamie Jo’s family was always the center of her life. She enjoyed each and every moment spent with them, creating memories to be cherished for years to come.

She is survived by her daughter, Madonna Edwards (Mike) of Benton; one stepdaughter, Tammy Blackwood (Bert) of Florida; two stepsons, Kelvin Nimmo (Betsy) and Dale Nimmo both of Florida; her two grandchildren, Josh Edwards (Taylor) of Springfield, Kentucky, Sarah Edwards (Josh) of Olive, Kentucky, two step grandchildren, Brian Nimmo and Jennifer Braxl; five great-grandchildren, Silas Edwards, Scarlett Edwards, Katherine Edwards, Elizabeth Edwards, and Jackson Edwards; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her recent husband of 30 years, Claude Wayne Nimmo; her first husband of 30 years, Jimmy Bourland; one sister, Anna Marie Bell; her three brothers, Billy Ray Castleberry, James Donald Castleberry, and Sammie Wilson Castleberry; and her parents.
