Nelda G. Cain passed away peacefully on Friday,  May 2, 2025, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Center in Paducah, Kentucky.

Nelda was born to the late Rymon L. Sholar and Sarah Paige Sholar on February 25, 1940, in Stewart County, Tennessee. She grew up on a farm with six other siblings who were all very tight-knit. Nelda's professional journey spanned 18 memorable years at CFSB, formerly known as Bank of Benton, where her diligent work in solely handling all insurance for her clients for almost two decades by herself made her commitment to service evident.

She was a devout Christian, and her and her husband James’ initiation of the breakfast program at Palma Methodist Church was a testament to her selfless nature and devotion to nurturing others. People traveled a distance to eat breakfast on Saturday mornings at the church, where you could also always find Nelda cooking the country ham. Those who knew her can attest that Nelda's heart was ever expansive, finding joy in the simplest of life's offerings.

She had fierce loyalty and love for the University of Kentucky Basketball that was matched only by the love she harbored for her family. Nelda left indelible marks of love and kindness in every corner of her world, from the pews of her church to the bleachers of countless sports venues where she cheered her grandsons on.

In remembering Nelda G. Cain, we recall a loving, kind, and selfless woman who approached each day with an open heart and an unyielding faith. Her story, marked by the joy of giving and the beauty of living, will continue to resonate with us all, reminding us that the richest lives are those spent in the service of others.

Nelda is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Cain of Benton, Kentucky; two sons, James A. Cain (Cyndee Chappel-Cain) of Camden, Tennessee, and Craig A. Cain (Kim) of Harvey in Marshall County, Kentucky; one sister, Faye Phillips of Murray, Kentucky; four brothers, Rymon L. “ Buddy” Sholar (Felicia) of Clarksville, Tennessee, James R. Sholar (Linda) of Oklahoma, Rodger Sholar of Bumpus Mills, Tennessee, and Kenneth Sholar of Danville, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Justin Cain, Zachary Cain, Jay Douglas Cain, Clayton Cain and Sarah Cain; and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Cheryl Milliken; and her parents, Rymon L. Sholar and Sarah Paige Sholar.
