Norma “Jane” Galyen, 82, of Kirksey, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.
Jane was born to the late Jewel McDonald and Floella Pogue McDonald on October 18, 1942, in Greenville, Kentucky. Her kind and nurturing personality led her to pursue a career in nursing, and she eventually graduated from college with a Master of Science in Nursing Degree. Jane dedicated her professional life to caring for others through her years of working at Murray Calloway County Hospital and Lourdes Hospital as a nurse and Director of Nurses. Jane had a great appreciation for the beauty of nature, which allowed her to use her artistic talents as a painter to capture some of nature’s beauty on canvas. She was also very fond of puzzles and enjoyed the challenge of solving and completing them. Her fascination with solving puzzles is probably one of the main reasons she loved sitting down to relax and watch some of her favorite crime shows on TV whenever she had the chance. As a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Benton, Jane’s faith was evident throughout her life. Her compassion and kindness extended to all areas of her life, and will live on in the countless lives she has touched.
Jane is survived by her husband of sixty years, Doug Galyen of Kirksey; two daughters, Melissa Edwards (Kevin) of Benton, Kentucky and Tara Galyen of Paducah; one sister, Jolene Walker; One sister-in-law, Alieda McDonald; four grandchildren, Ethan Beyer (Megan), Tristan Beyer, Sarah Wiser (James), Madison Edward; and one great-grandson, Theo Beyer.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Gary McDonald; and her parents, Jewel McDonald and Floella Pogue McDonald.
