Paul Edward Darnell, age 78 of Calvert City, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Calvert City Convalescent Center.
Paul was born to the late Chester and Evelyn Jessup Darnell on December, 31, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. He was a graduate of North Marshall High School where he was recognized as one of their star basketball players. Paul worked many years as a union ironworker for the Ironworkers Local 782 chapter of Paducah, Kentucky before retiring. He had a passion for sports, especially basketball, baseball and golfing. He was a season ticket holder of the St. Louis Cardinals and during basketball season was known to “bleed blue” in support of the UK basketball team. He was also a seat holder and loved cheering and supporting the Marshall County High School basketball teams. When he wasn’t watching sports you could find him on the golf course.
Paul was known as a wonderful man with a big heart. He was a pillar of our community and a staple at local sporting events. He will be missed by all.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Paula Dennison (David) of Benton, Kentucky; son, Brad Darnell (Tara) of Calvert City, Kentucky; sister inlaw, Patsy Darnell; grandson, Daniel McCarty (Lydia); two grandchildren, Aubri Dennison and James Daniel McCarty; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents; brother, Bennie “B.W.” Darnell and granddaughter, Lexi McCarty
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr.
A Memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr with Bro. Leland “Skip” Davis officiating. Burial at Fooks Cemetery.
