She was born on April 16, 1950, in Huckleberry, Alabama, to the late Erskin and Juanita Cox Estes. Shirley devoted herself to a life of meaningful work and steady commitment. She served as an MP in the Marines, where she demonstrated discipline, courage, and a strong sense of duty. Her faith was not only something she practiced, but something she lived each day.

Shirley also found great joy in the simple and beautiful things in life. She loved gardening and took pleasure in growing both flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed working with her hands and had a natural talent for crafting and building birdhouses. She also enjoyed canning, preserving the fruits of her labor and sharing the results of her hard work.
