Walter "Gene" Sipes

Walter “Gene” Sipes, 74, of Benton passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Murray Calloway County Hospital.

Gene was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 23, 1948 to the late Walter and Alice Marcum Sipes. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown College and worked multiple jobs in the Louisville area before moving to Western Kentucky. Over the years, he went to work for Carbide Industries in Calvert City, Newcomb Oil, and spent over 15 years working as a manager for Waffle House. Gene loved spending time with his family. When his sons were growing up he always enjoyed the opportunity to coach their little league teams and enjoyed going fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 12 years, Pat Sipes; three sons, Kyle Higgason (Carol) of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Mackenzie Sipes (Brittany) of Benton, and Cody Sipes (Haley) of Benton; one sister, Patricia Manahan (Ted) of Louisville; eight grandchildren, Jackson Higgason, Caroline Higgason, Weston Higgason, Madison Sipes, Beau Sipes, Magnolia Sipes, Jack Sipes, and Luke Sipes; and two nephews, Brad Spencer (Sarah) and Grant Spencer.

He was preceded by his parents, Walter Sipes and Alice Marcum Sipes.

A committal service will be scheduled at a later date.
