Smithland | Dec. 15, 1944 | Feb. 20, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Nelson Monroe on February 20, 2024 at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center with his family at his bedside following a critical illness. Mr. Monroe was a member of the Potter's House in Smithland, Kentucky.

Jim was born December 15, 1944 in Evansville, Indiana to Mildred Alice (Nelson) Monroe and lived his childhood in Birdsville, Kentucky. He graduated from Livingston Central High School in Smithland, Kentucky in 1963. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 during the Vietnam War where he served in Germany earning the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his enlistment. Jim would become a carpenter after his military service where he would work for most of his life where he also served the Ledbetter Fire Department. He enjoyed the outdoors and would often be found fishing, hunting, looking for arrowheads or just enjoying a nice drive through the countryside. He loved sharing the outdoors with his family, his country (as he was a proud Veteran) and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats.  His spirit, characterized by kindness and determination, will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched. Your life on earth was a different one. Rest in everlasting peace. You will always be in our hearts and memories.
