Mr. Clarence Harrison Goforth, 83, of Paris, TN passed away on August 31, 2026 at Camden Healthcare in Camden, TN.
He was born on April 4, 1943, in Dalton, GA, to Lillie Mae Cain Goforth and George Harrison Goforth.
Clarence was a hard worker his whole life. He only went through the eighth grade in school and stopped to start working. He had a very creative mind and could invent solutions to many mechanical issues. He worked in all areas of the carpet industry and drove a transfer truck for Georgia Highway Express. He married Sue Standridge Goforth and had three children. They moved to Cadiz, KY, in 1975 and opened a carpet store. Due to his radio ads for the carpet warehouse he became known as ‘Georgia Boy’ across KY and TN.
He continued selling carpet after his divorce and married again to M. Pauline (Polly) Perry Goforth. He continued to work hard and could sell “snowballs to Eskimos” in various enterprises the rest of his life. Clarence was always independent and a leader, not a follower.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline (Polly) Perry Goforth; siblings, Betty L. Jones, Emmett Goforth, Mary Ruth Massingill, and Raymond G. Goforth.
He is survived by his siblings, Georgia M. Walker (Donald), Dalton, GA; and Fred R. Goforth, Dalton, GA; his children, Christy A. Goforth, Chatsworth, GA, Clarence H. (Buddy), Jr., and wife, Connie C. Goforth, Ellijay, GA, and F. Andrew Goforth, Chatsworth, GA; his granddaughters, Amelia G. Goforth, Chatsworth, GA, Alexis F. (Lexi) Hopper (Isaiah), Tacoma, WA, and Adrienne H. Goforth, Ellijay, GA; and his great-grandson, Grainger L. Jackson, Chatsworth, GA, and many other relatives and friends.
A graveside service is set for 10 AM on Friday, September 4, 2026 at Murray Memorial Gardens with Sammy Cunningham officiating.
A special thank you to Camden Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Tennessee Quality Care-Hospice for his care.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
