Dr. Mary Belle Adelman, 91, of Hazel, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Murray Calloway County Hospital.

Dr. Adelman was born on September 21, 1932 in Hot Springs, AR to the late Lester and Sally Vaughn Brazil. 

She earned a BSE from Henderson University in AR with a teaching major in English and Social Studies and a minor in speech and drama.  She went on to get a Masters Degree in counseling and an Educational Specialists in psychology from the University of Arkansas.  She also graduated from Penn State University and the University of Kansas at Pittsburg, KS, culminating with a Ph.D. in education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  Mary had over 20 years of teaching and counseling experience in AR, MO, KS, PA and KY.  She served as director of Career Education for the Tyrone Area School District for two years in Pennsylvania and taught in both the Department of Industrial Education and Technology and the Department of English at Murray State University.  In addition, she was a Murray State adjunct Teacher Educator working in the Kentucky New Teachers Internship program until getting cancer in 1989 which culminated her teaching activities very quickly.

Dr. Adelman enjoyed working with animals all of her life and trained dogs and horses for years. Mary and her late husband Frank, owned land and stock on over 100 acres in Western Kentucky.  They ran between 30-50 head of beef cattle and also owned sheep on their farm.  She was involved in over 25 organizational clubs.  

No public services are planned.  Dr. Adelman will be laid to rest at Murray Memorial Gardens.
