Shirley A. Burkeen

Mrs. Shirley A. Burkeen, 89, of Murray, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Spring Creek Healthcare.

Shirley was born to Leo and Evelyn Tucker Alexander in Calloway County on Christmas day of 1934.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Murray.

Shirley graduated from Almo High School where she cheered on the sidelines of the basketball court for her now beloved husband of 70 years, Mr. Andrew Jackson Burkeen.  This shared chapter of their youth laid the foundation for a lifetime of memories.  She found joy in the beauty of her flowers and garden and she took great pleasure in cooking for her loved ones.  Shirley's love for her family was unmatched and she will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Those left to cherish many wonderful memories include her loving husband, Mr. Andrew Burkeen of Murray; a son, Mitchell Burkeen (Tonya) of Murray; a daughter, Jill Burkeen of Murray; two sisters, Joan Alexander of Murray, Lorna Outland of Murray; five grandchildren, Whitney Hancock (John), Jack Burkeen, Allen Moore, Allison Wells, Austin Wells; five great grandchildren, Finn Hancock, Emma Moore, Brooklyn Powell, Maeleigh Wells, Kynleigh Wells.  In addition, she leaves behind four nieces and nephews, Jason Beach, Fonda Beach, Garrett Beach and Blandon Beach.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
