James Lyndell Watkins, age 77, of Symsonia, a man known for his kind and soft-hearted nature, passed away peacefully at his home on May 17, 2026. Born on October 11, 1948, in Mayfield, Kentucky, James lived a life marked by dedication, skill, and warmth toward those around him.

James devoted his career to working as a machinist, where his expertise and reliability were deeply valued. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a craftsman at heart—an individual who could fix anything and had the remarkable talent for creating tools when none were available. His love for woodworking and furniture making was a testament to his creativity and resourcefulness.

He was also a man who cherished community and companionship. Each morning, James would enjoy coffee with friends, sharing moments of care and checking in on one another. His kindness extended beyond acquaintances, as illustrated by the thoughtful gesture of handcrafting wooden plaques for each child during his time as a bus driver—an enduring symbol of his care and connection to others.

An ardent lover of the outdoors, James found joy in nature and traveling with his beloved wife Janice to cherished places such as Yellowstone, Washington, and Mayberry. These experiences reflected his zest for life and appreciation for the world around him.

A longtime member of Southland Baptist Temple in Paducah, Kentucky, James’s faith and his relationship with Jesus was an important part of his identity and community life.

He is survived by his loving son David Watkins (Carly) of Lompoc, CA, along with his daughter Jenny Perkins (Steven) of Symsonia. He took great pride in his grandchildren: Riley Watkins, Bobby Smith, Sydney Smith, Nicholas Smith, Allyssa Perkins, Kylie Perkins, and Paisley Perkins, as well as his great-grandchild Ashlynn Smith, who all carry forward his legacy.

James was preceded in death by his devoted wife Janice Watkins, his parents William and Thelma Watkins, his brothers Danny and Jerry Watkins, and his sisters Juanita Lambert, Donna Ray, Laquetta Hendrickson, Janette Ray, and Glenda Sydboten.

Family, friends, and those whose lives were touched by James are invited to honor his memory at the Southland Baptist Temple, located at 927 Yarbro Lane, Paducah, KY 42003. Visitation will take place on May 22, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service from 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Jonathan Goodman officiating.  Graveside services to follow at Clarks River Cemetery in Symsonia.

James Lyndell Watkins leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love—a man who embraced life and those around him with open hands and a warm heart. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
