Sally Sue Frey, age 68 of Benton, KY, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on May 17, 2026, after a courageous fight with bile-duct/liver cancer. Born on November 29, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, Sally lived a life rich with love, hard work, and family.
Sally’s journey through life was marked by many chapters and places. Before moving to western Kentucky in 2014, she resided in Kansas, Ohio, and other communities, where she nurtured her passions and family. Her professional career included dedicated service at Hunt-Wesson Foods, a role she approached with great commitment. Beyond her work, she found immense joy and fulfillment working on her farm, tending to her animals and garden. She had an immense love of both. She loved the color purple and a good bargain hunt! She always loved a good sale and a good cup of coffee.
A passionate gardener, Sally loved to work with her yearly garden and cherish the life she nurtured around her. Her interests were colorful and unique. She collected gnomes, adored Betty Boop, and took delight in baking cookies each Christmas, creating sweet memories for her loved ones. Fishing was also a treasured pastime, especially when shared with her grandchildren, bringing smiles and laughter as they cast their lines together. The simple joys of nature with watching the "hummers" (hummingbirds) and playing at the park with her grandchildren, added a special glow to her days.
Sally’s personality embodied kindness, compassion, and faith, which radiated through all aspects of her life. Her faith and spirituality guided her journey and gave strength to those around her.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 36 years, John H. Frey Sr., her daughters, Catherine Fuller (Bradford) of Benton and Lillian Noe of Calvert City; and her treasured grandchildren, Parker Lee, Serenity Sue, and Alivia Sue Fuller. Sally also leaves behind her brothers Richard Sallows and Randy Houttekier of Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania, and Chuck Houttekier of Toledo, Ohio, as well as her sister Joyce Goins of Kane, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Camile Houttekier and Ruth Houttekier; her son-in-law, Ian Kirkpatrick; and brothers Paul, Ray, and Roger Houttekier.
Sally Sue Frey’s legacy is one of love, faith, and joyful simplicity. Surrounded by the ones she loved in her final moments, her spirit remains a beacon of warmth and faithfulness to all who knew her. Her life story, full of devotion to family, passion for nature, and love for life, will be cherished by those whose lives she touched.
