Brenda Joy Holt, 78, of Metropolis, Illinois died peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 12th, 2025. She was born Oct. 24th, 1947 to John M. Baker Sr., and Virginia E. (Phillips) Baker in St. Louis and was raised in Metropolis Illinois. Brenda attended PJC, and was a Montgomery Ward manager for years, until becoming co-owner of Holt Recycling when she married John Holt.
Brenda Holt was preceded in death by her parents, John M. Baker Sr., and Virginia E. Baker, and her husband John W. Holt Sr.
Brenda is survived by her children: David Holt (wife Judith), Jim Holt (wife Dorothy), Mark Holt, Kerry Seeman (husband Keith), Denise Meyer, Michael Hein, Michelle Hogue, Melody Holt, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Brenda was an active member of First Baptist Church Metropolis for most of her life. She loved painting and music, sang in the choir, and played piano and organ for many other churches. She will always be remembered for her example of unconditional love. Faith and family were most important to her.
Brenda did not want a funeral, instead a celebration of life will take place in a few months, date and details TBA. Donations to Compassion International in Brenda’s name are greatly appreciated.
