Charles “Unc” William Kortz passed away May 4, 2025 at Stone Creek Nursing Home in Paducah, Kentucky.  He was 83.

Mr. Kortz was a HVAC installer for over 30 years and a longtime high school baseball and softball umpire.  He was a graduate of St. Mary Academy and a lifelong member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church. 

Mr. Kortz was an avid sports fan, following Kentucky Wildcats and the St. Louis Cardinals.  His passion was playing and coaching softball and baseball.  He played men’s competitive baseball as a member of the Twin State baseball team.  He also played fast pitch and slow pitch softball most of his adult life.  He was fondly known as “Unc”.  After “retiring” from playing and working, he helped coached St. Mary  High School and Lone Oak High School varsity softball and Lone Oak Middle School softball team.

When he wasn’t on the field you could find him and Bonnie at the lake in their camper or on their boat.  They spent many of their summers camping and boating with family and friends.                     
                        
Surviving are his three daughters, Karen (John) Tyler of Mayfield; Sharon (Bill) Duke of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; and Carla (Steve) Shaw of Paducah.  Grandchildren, Jennifer Duke of Elizabethtown; Kayla (Justin) Armstrong of Mt Washinton; Jacob (Michela) Tyler of Nashville, Tennessee; Austin (Alexandra) Shaw of Mayfield; Hannah (Connor) Grimm of Paducah; Zach (Morghen) Tyler of Murray and Taylor Duke of Shepherdsville.  Great grandchildren, Nora, Preslee, Isabella, Grady, Jase and Scarlett. One sister, Ethel O’Neill and one brother, Richard Kortz; numerous nieces and nephews.           

Mr. Kortz was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Bonne Lou Crowley Kortz; his parents were Francis
 William and Mary Luvada (Wurth) Kortz; his sisters, Mary Catherine Wurth, Doris Scheer and Mildred Joyce Kortz; his brothers Paul James Kortz and George Earl Kortz.

A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 9, 2025 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church with Father Gary Clark officiating.    Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation Will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. with prayers at 7:00, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Lindsey Funeral Home.
