Smithland | Jun. 17, 1960 | yesterday

David Hinkle, 66, of Smithland, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Baptist Health Paducah.

Born in Pennsylvania, he moved with his family to Texas due to his father's work. He returned to Pennsylvania a couple of years later before moving back to Texas in 1981. He spent much of his career working as a professional commercial plumber, a trade that allowed him to use his skills to help others.

In 2007, he made Smithland, Kentucky, his home, where he became a valued member of the community. He enjoyed staying busy and working with his hands, especially repairing friends vehicles and buying, fixing, and selling cars. He also worked at Thompson's Grocery, where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and training others.

He had a genuine love for people and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether assisting someone with a plumbing problem around town or stopping to help a stranger stranded along the road, he never hesitated to help someone in need. He loved the Smithland community and treasured the friendships he made throughout the years.

Music was a big part of his life, and he enjoyed listening to a wide variety of genres. He also loved fishing, spending time on the boat, and making memories with his closest friends. He was happiest when he was active, enjoying life, and surrounded by the people he cared about.

Some of his most cherished moments were the simple ones, especially spending time with Jaime and their beloved fur babies and taking long drives through the countryside looking for owls and new eagles nests. These special outings brought him great joy and created lasting memories.

He will be remembered for his generous heart, willingness to help others, love for his community, and the many friendships he built along the way.

David is survived by his significant other, Jamie Mourer, one son David J (Kristi) Hinkle of Brookshire, Texas; one grandson, David Brooks of Brookshire, TX; brother, Douglas (Pamela) Hinkle of Chambersburg, PA, one sister, Teri ; one half-sister, Francene (Mike) Zeigler of Middletown, Ma; one niece, Angela (Stephen) Chmiel; one nephew, Ryan (Jessica) Hinkle; great nieces and nephews, Stevie “Charlie Brown” Chmiel, John “Jack” Chmiel, Avery Jane “Roy” Hinkle, Ella Rae “Rae” Hinkle, and Ryan Nicholas “Ry” Hinkle and a host of close friends.
