David Schreiner, 70, of Mayfield, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on August 18, 1954, in Gary, Indiana, David was a man of great warmth, wisdom, and wit. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and carried that spirit of service throughout his life — including his time as a Scout Leader with the Boy Scouts of America. David held both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, and his curiosity and thirst for knowledge never faded. For over four decades, David built a beautiful life in Mayfield with his beloved wife of 41 years, Christie Schreiner, creating a home filled with laughter, learning, and love. He was a gifted builder, a passionate gardener, and an enthusiastic collector — especially of coins and keepsakes that held deep meaning. A natural conversationalist, David loved a good political debate just as much as he loved sharing his favorite jokes. His sense of humor, sharp mind, and generous heart made him unforgettable to everyone he met.
David is survived by his loving wife, Christie Schreiner; his children: Nathan Schreiner, Morgan Schreiner, Jesse Dougherty-Schreiner (Sonny), and Marisa Johnson (Adam); his sister Sue Kostal; his niece Melanie Hogan (Jenna); and Jake Kostal (Emily, Savanah). He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends — including many whom he lovingly adopted as his own throughout the years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Jesse Schreiner, one sister, and three brothers. David’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the lessons he passed down. He will be deeply missed, always remembered, and forever loved.
No Services will be held but his memory is always with us.
“Those we love never truly leave us. There are things that death cannot touch.”
