James “Dick” Richard Greenwell Jr., was a kindhearted, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He left this world on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at age 81. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and a yard full of Cardinals.  His battle with Dementia showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and grace. He was a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Dick was born on July 24, 1942, in Evansville, IN. He played the trumpet in his high school band and often played Taps at military funerals and events. He also enjoyed playing golf, a passion he shared with his family growing up.  He was smart and a quick learner. His love for mathematics and numbers awarded him a co-op opportunity with Alcoa and eventually a career as a Computer Programmer and System Analyst with Honeywell. He loved his career and worked full time until he was 70 years old.  He loved his family and spending time with them. Dick also enjoyed fishing, bird watching and his dogs and cats. He and his wife Kathy were devoted to rescuing cats and providing them loving homes.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Greenwell; children; Vickie Moody (Troy), Lisa Greenwell (David Joyce), Steven Greenwell (Dawn); grandchildren Devon Smith (Alan), Dakota Schmidt (Logan), Dalton Moody, Christian Krupa, Tyler Lillevig, Nick Krupa and Skyler Greenwell; great grandchildren Max Smith, Finley Schmitt and Mila Schmitt; brother Jerry Greenwell, sisters Beverly Smith and Barbara (Nancy) Jones.  James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Genevieve Greenwell.
A Celebration of Life for James and his wife will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Walker Hall in Paducah, KY from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In leu of giving flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mercy Hospice (Paducah, KY) or the Alzheimer’s Foundation in his name.
