Melinda Stevens Barlow, 78, passed away in her home in Paducah, Kentucky, on May 1, 2026. She was born on June 29, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, and lived a life devoted to family, faith, and a deep love for others.

In her younger years, Melinda embraced adventure and independence, traveling the world and creating unforgettable memories. Among her most cherished experiences were trips to India and Hong Kong, where she purchased beautiful fabrics and had custom clothing made—an expression of her vibrant spirit and appreciation for culture.

Melinda attended Arizona State University, where she met the love of her life, Thomas Greene Barlow. They were married on July 18, 1970, and later joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1977, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Together, they built a life centered on faith, raising their seven children across Illinois, California, Arizona, and ultimately Utah, where they spent the majority of their years.

Melinda was known for her warm and welcoming home. She delighted in hosting family gatherings, wedding luncheons, and backyard barbecues, where her infamous green Jell-O salad and potato salad were always crowd favorites. Friends and family alike were drawn to her kindness and generosity—everyone was made to feel like they belonged.

Above all, Melinda was a devoted mother and grandmother. She poured her heart into her children and grandchildren, showing up faithfully to school events, sporting games, cheerleading competitions, and Grandparents Day celebrations. Even with a full and busy life, she made each child and grandchild feel seen, valued, and deeply loved. She also treasured traveling with her daughters, Jamie and Jorie, sharing special adventures through ATA and taekwondo experiences around the United States.

Melinda will be remembered as compassionate, accepting, and patient. Even during her final years, when she was largely bedridden, she maintained a positive outlook and a joyful spirit. Remarkably, she continued to dream and plan—right up until her final days, she was looking forward to a trip to Japan with her daughter Jorie.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Thomas Greene Barlow, and her daughter, Chelsey Joanne Barlow.

Melinda is survived by her children: Joseph (Marisol), Steven (Kimber), Spencer (Kimberly), Jonathan (Noel), Jamie, and Jorie, along with 26 cherished grandchildren and 2.5 great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Jamie and Jorie for their loving care and dedication to their mother over the past several years.

Melinda’s life was one of love, service, and quiet strength. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched and in the family she so deeply cherished.
