In Loving Memory of our Dad, William Ray Humphrey On August 29th at 91 years old, our dad left this world. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bill married his high school sweetheart. Becky, the cheerleader who cheered him on while he played basketball. They built a beautiful life and family together, raising three children and eventually being blessed with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. When we lost Mom five years ago, a part of Dad went with her. He missed her terribly and was heartbroken without her. There is comfort today in believing that after five long years apart, they are finally together again. He served his country as a medic in the United States Navy and later spent his working years managing Baker's Shoe store and then Reidland Clothing store. He worked hard, treated people well and quietly showed us through the way he lived what it meant to be a good man. Some of our most treasured memories, though, are the little things he did that let us know how very much we were loved. Every Easter Sunday, Dad made sure my sister and I had corsages. And Dad had a mischievous side. He was a bit of a prankster, both at home and at work. At Christmastime, he loved teasing us. Every few days, he would bring home one beautifully wrapped present and put it under the tree—but there wouldn’t be a name anywhere on it. We had no idea who it belonged to, and of course, that was exactly the way he wanted it. He kept us guessing and enjoyed every minute of it. He loved his family. He loved our mom. And he was deeply loved in return. Today our hearts are broken because we had the privilege of a wonderful home life and father and mother who brought us up with wonderful morals and values. We can only imagine the reunion that took place —the basketball player and his cheerleader, together once again. We love you, Dad. Thank you for a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories.
