Barbara Rose (Kauth) Brown, age 90, entered the Church Triumphant on Monday, May 18, 2026.
Barbara was born in Paducah, Kentucky on February 16, 1936 to the late Rev. Frank and Rose Kauth. She attended St. Paul Lutheran School, Brazelton Junior High School, and Augusta Tilghman High School, where she was a member of the Drill Corps and the graduating class of 1954. She went on to attend Michigan State University, Murray State University, and the University of Kentucky, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. On August 17, 1963, she married Ernest Brown. Barbara went on to touch the lives of countless students in her years of teaching in Aurora, IL, St. Clair Shores, MI, Frankfort, KY and in the Paducah Public School system at Clark Elementary, Morgan Elementary, and Cooper-Whiteside Elementary. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Paducah for over 60 years, with her father presiding as Pastor for half of those years. More recently she was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Metropolis, IL. She was a member of the USTA and played tennis well into her 70s. Her teams won in the southeast sectional and advanced to the national tournament in multiple years.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ernest Brown, a brother, Donald Kauth, a son-in-law, Brian Elder, and her parents. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Evan (Karen) Brown, and her daughter, Claire Elder, two grandchildren, Eli Brown and Abby Brown, all of Paducah, a sister, Carolyn Mann, of Clearwater, FL, and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, May 22, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, followed by a funeral service at 12:00. Burial will follow at Mt. Kenton Cemetery, the Rev. Timothy A. Bean officiating.
