Bert Jody, 93 of Paducah passed away at 8:17 AM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Providence Pointe Healthcare in Paducah. He was born September 24, 1930 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Bert Jody Sr. & Sara Cromer Jody.
He moved with his family to Tiffin, OH and then Ft. Thomas, KY in 1943. In 1946 the family moved to Sewickly, PA where Bert graduated high school in 1948. He attended the University of Kentucky where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau & ROTC. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Art. He was a gifted and prolific artist in his later years producing scores of paintings.
He met his wife Carolyn Ann Davis at UK and they were married in the fall of 1953. Bert was a patriot who loved his country. He entered into military service that year and served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He was on the USAF pistol team where he instructed pilots on small firearms use. Bert & Carolyn returned to Paducah in 1956 where he started his career at Davis Transport. He worked for Davis Transport for 50 years serving as President from 1973 until his retirement in 2006. Bert worked in many areas of transport, specializing in nuclear waste transport. He was a respected pioneer in this field. He served as President of the KY Tank Truck Carriers conference in 1970. He was the President of Nuclear Transport & Storage and was also a member of American National Standards Institution N14 committee which established standards for the packaging and transport of nuclear materials where he worked with and spoke before state and federal agencies governing nuclear industries.
He is survived by his son, Richard Jody of Paducah and daughters, Lisa Jody, Cynthia Jones & husband, Mike and a grandson, Kyle Jones all of Arlington, TX; his sister, Marilyn Jody; his brother & sister in-law, Tom Jody & wife, Patricia and a brother in-law, Ed Davis.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Carolyn Davis Jody; his parents, Bert & Sara Cromer Jody; his inlaws, Wade & Ruby Davis; sister in-laws, JoAnn Cleary and Mae Davis and his beloved daughter in-law, Lori Jody.
Bert was a 67 year member of Broadway United Methodist Church in Paducah where he taught Sunday School classes for over 50 of those years. He was and always will be a beloved son, brother, husband, father & grandfather. His faith and love for the Lord God was the rock upon which he stood…This is his greatest legacy.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Broadway United Methodist Church with Rev. Justin Ramer officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. cemetery in Metropolis, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Broadway United Methodist Church.
