Betty Martin Phillips

Betty Martin Phillips was born on March 15, 1934, to Alton Martin and Nadine Anders Martin Whitson in Moulton, Alabama.  She passed from this life on June 14, 2025, at Providence Pointe Nursing Center. 
 
Growing up in Moulton and Decatur, Alabama, Betty graduated from Decatur High School where she was a proud member of the Red Raiders cheerleading squad and played the French horn in the marching band.  In 1953, she married Billy G. Phillips and became the loving mother of three daughters: Cindy, Suzanne, and Michele. 
 
A dedicated member of the Grant Street Church of Christ in Decatur, Betty actively participated in various ministries, caring for the sick and providing meals and rides to those in need.  She worked until her retirement at the United States Army Missile Command Acquisition Center in Huntsville as a procurement technician. 
 
In her later years, Betty moved to Paducah, Kentucky, where she continued her faith journey as a member of the Broadway Church of Christ.
 
Betty is survived by her three daughters, Cindy Phillips Owen (Dan) of Paducah, Kentucky, Suzanne Caris (Bobby) of Milton, Florida, and Carrie Michele Edelman (Tom) of Sterling, Colorado.  She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton Martin and Nadine Anders Martin Whitson; her sister, Willa Dean Riley; and her great-grandson, Carson Barnes.
 
Betty will be remembered for her loving spirit, dedication to her family, and commitment to her community.
 
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 16, 2025 at the Brook Hill Cemetery with Dan Owen officiating.
 
There will be no visitation.
 
Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.
