Bettye Tichenor Swoope, 82, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Baptist Health Hospital, Paducah.
A woman of deep faith, Bettye was a longtime member of Woodlawn Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and touched many lives with her compassion, kindness, and wisdom. She worked for over 20 years at Western Baptist Hospital and later served as a bookkeeper and office manager at several businesses in Paducah. Her work ethic and attention to detail were admired by all who knew her. Bettye had a great love for animals and was a passionate advocate for animal welfare. She loved decorating for the holidays, bargain hunting, and cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events. Mornings were very special to her-she enjoyed reading her Bible and sharing coffee with her husband, a daily routine she cherished. Bettye was quick to share a smile with strangers, and her positivity was unwavering. She will be remembered for her warmth, sense of humor, devotion to Christ, and her steadfast love for her family and friends.
Bettye is survived by her husband of 61 years, Walter Wayne Swoope, Sr.; two sons, Walter Wayne Swoope, Jr. (Cynthia Tseng) of Lexington, Kentucky and Tyler Tichenor Swoope (Mary Anne) of Benton, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Zoie Annabel Swoope of Lexington, Kentucky and Ty Tichenor Swoope of Benton, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Abigail Cozette Swoope; a sister, Patty Tichenor Settle; a brother, Robert Travis Tichenor. Her parents were, John Calvert Tichenor and Cozette Travis Tichenor.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
