Charles Robert Moffitt, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away in his sleep on March 20, 2026, at the age of 93. He will be remembered for his attention to detail, commitment to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, and his love for his family. Charles was born on February 15, 1933, in Paducah, Kentucky. His late father, Charles Rayburn Moffitt, was a vocational training teacher and Paducah City Manager in the early ‘50’s. His mother, Eva Hall Moffitt, was a homemaker and later owned a business, Eva Moffitt Drapery Shop.
Charles grew up in Paducah and attended Tilghman High School. He met his loving wife of 70+ years in junior high school. Their commitment to one another and unconditional love were examples for us all. Charles attended the University of Kentucky and obtained his accounting degree in January 1955. While in college, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, worked part-time at Milward Funeral Home, and was a night bookkeeper at the new Campbell House Inn in Lexington. After graduation, he and Sue married and moved to Austin, Texas, where he attended the University of Texas, receiving a master’s degree in accounting, and eventually became a Certified Public Accountant. Charles joined the Army and served in the Atlanta area and remained there to work after his discharge. He and Sue ultimately returned to Paducah, and Charles began his employment with Schuette & Taylor accounting firm, which he eventually purchased and formed Moffitt and Company.
During his life in Paducah, Charles joined the Rotary Club and served in the capacity of treasurer for many years. He and Sue were active members in Grace Episcopal Church for a number of years, and he served as treasurer for the Paducah Symphony. He loved his accounting profession and the opportunity to have a significant purpose in life. In fact, he continued working until the first of this past year. Charles enjoyed the time that his daughter Laura Lynn grew up, and she was involved in showing horses. But his favorite extracurricular activity was sailing on Kentucky Lake. He owned several different sailboats over the years and considered power boats on the lake to be a loud nuisance.
The Moffitt family would like to express their sincere appreciation to four special ladies who provided exceptional care to both Charles and Sue as they faced difficult medical challenges over the last few years: Alberta White, Vanessa Holt, Cheryl Holt, and Karen Davis.
Charles is survived by one daughter, Laura Lynn (Michael) Hutchcraft of Kattawa, Kentucky; one brother Allen (Georgianna) Moffitt of Murray, Kentucky: two great-grandchildren, Charles Kenneth Vasquez (13 years) and Scarlet Grace Vasquaz (12 years)of San Antonio, Texas; one nephew, Gregory Allen (Jennifer) Moffitt of Knoxville, Tennessee; and several cousins.
Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Vaughn Moffitt; one son, Charles Robert “Chip” Moffitt, Jr.; one grandson, Charles Kenneth Settles; and one sister, Mary Lee Moffitt.
A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Paducah with Pastor David Appold officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Kenton Cemetery of Paducah.
