Cora Sue “WYNA” Burnett Brown, age 88, of Paducah, went home to be with her Lord at 4:30 AM, Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky. The family is sure that her late husband of 46 years, George W. Brown, Sr., and her late daughter, Rena Brown Bailey, were there, eagerly awaiting her arrival. She was born on September 15, 1937, in West Paducah, Kentucky, as the tenth child and third daughter of the late Rommie and Theresa Boswell Burnett. She was also preceded in death by her fifteen siblings, Terry W. Burnett, Charles Burnett, R.L. Burnett, Robert Burnett, Ed Burnett, Bill Burnett, Wilbur Burnett, Lewis Burnett, Gerald Burnett, John Burnett, James Burnett, Georgia Thompson, Marjorie Adams, Joyce Harris, and Judy Peck.
Cora Sue was of the Baptist faith, and her beliefs were an important part of the life she lived each day. She showed unconditional love to her family and embraced her role as the matriarch with pride and tenderness. Her home was a place of welcome, care, and togetherness, and she took great pride in being a homemaker. She found joy in caring for her children and grandchildren, and she gave generously of her time, attention, and affection to make sure they always felt loved and supported.
Family was at the center of Cora Sue’s life, and she especially enjoyed spending time together during gatherings that brought everyone close. She had a special gift for making those around her feel valued and cherished, and her love was often expressed through the simple but meaningful ways she cared for others. Whether she was preparing a meal, sharing conversation, or simply enjoying the company of those she loved, she created memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Cora Sue had many interests that reflected her appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. She loved nature and enjoyed the beauty of the world around her. She also had a fondness for antiques, which spoke to her appreciation for history, character, and the stories held in treasured pieces from the past. She enjoyed canning and cooking for her family, especially during family get-togethers, where her meals brought comfort and joy to all who gathered around her table. She also made it a point to stay informed and enjoyed keeping up with all the current news.
She is survived by her son, George “Sonny” (Debbie) Brown, and her daughter, Darla Brown (Greg) Sasseen, all of Mayfield; she was “Memaw” to her five grandchildren, Emily A. Sasseen, Corey (Marisa) Brown, Wes (Sarah) Brown, Jacob Bailey all of Paducah and Houston (Amy) Sasseen of Tucson, AZ; her two great-grandchildren Ethan Brown and Aiden Brown; her sister, Betty Dowdy of Mayfield; several nieces and nephews; her lifelong dear best friend, Doris Rupp Steinkamp and her companion of eighteen years, whom she enjoyed traveling, dining out, listening to music, Morgan “Junior” Cox of Dogwood; Junior said about Cora Sue, “I’ve never known of anyone who thought so much and lived for their family”.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Marshall Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Kenton Cemetery in Paducah. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
