David Lynn Thompson of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on August 27, 1948, to the late Leonard Cecil Thompson and Norma Jean Scott Thompson. He was a 1966 graduate of Heath High School.
David was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, serving 6 years in the Navy on the USS Trigger SS-564, a diesel submarine. He retired from BellSouth/ATT after 34 years of service.
He and Linda Swain were married on July 1, 1983, and were able to spend 42 years together following the kids and grandkids' sports, and spending many, many relaxing trips to the beach.
David was an avid reader and spent hours engrossed in action books and books about the old west. Louis L’Amour was his favorite.
While David enjoyed following the Kentucky Wildcats and St. Louis Cardinals, his real sports passion was watching his kids and grandkids playing baseball, softball, volleyball, and occasionally a dance recital. His love of baseball began as a young boy, playing himself, and led to many days of watching the Little League and College World Series.
After retirement, he discovered duck hunting, spending many happy times in a duck blind with friends, Brady, and especially with his granddaughters.
He loved being outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, gardening, or growing the most beautiful lawns.
He looked forward to visits and family get-togethers with those who called him Grandpa.
David was a Catholic and devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he served as a greeter.
David is survived by his wife Linda Swain Thompson; his son, Brady (Dana) Thompson of Paducah; his daughters, Angela Thompson Flock (Brian) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and Sandy Jarvis Reed (Rod) of Mayfield, Kentucky; his brother Philip R. Thompson(Julia) of Lovelaceville, Kentucky; his grandchildren Shannon Jarvis Norman (Ryan), Stacey Jarvis Scheer (Chris), Heather Catilla, Trent Catilla, Devan Reed, Chase Jarvis, McCall Thompson, Madelyn Thompson (Will Templeton) Carson Reed, Nolan Flock, Lydia Flock and Maddox Weaks; his great-grands. Taylor Puckett Deweese (Drew), Matthew Scheer, Ethan Puckett, Izzy Scheer, Abby Scheer, Landon Norman, and Ollie Catilla; Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
