David Wayne Downs, age 65, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 24, 1961, David lived a life marked by dedication, deep family devotion, and an unmatched work ethic.
David began pouring and finishing concrete at the young age of 15, starting a lifelong career defined by craftsmanship and grit. For over 45 years, he successfully owned and operated his own concrete business. He was happiest when operating a backhoe or maneuvering heavy equipment, always content when his hands were busy and a job was being well done.
Beyond his work, David was the ultimate "fixer." If something was broken, David was the first call anyone made. He had a natural gift for understanding how things worked-knowing a little about a lot-and he used that knowledge selflessly to help others. Generous to a fault, he was the kind of man who would literally give you the shirt off his back. He loved the freedom of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and was always along for the ride. Rather it be a trip to Vegas or every yard sale in town, he was ready to go!
David also possessed a bright, quick-witted sense of humor and a seemingly eternal good mood. He had a rare talent for finding the funny side of almost any situation and wanted nothing more than to see everyone around him smile. Always ready with good-natured joke, or playful tease, aggravating the people he loved was his favorite pastime, and his lighthearted banter brought endless laughter and joy into every room he entered.
Above all else, David was a family man through and through. He shared 47 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Penny Downs. He was endlessly proud of his daughter, Jessica, who was his absolute pride and joy, and held a special bond with his grandson, Hudson, who was truly his best buddy. David never let a day pass without making sure his family knew how deeply they were cared for, often reminding them multiple times a day just how much he loved them.
Along with his wife, daughter, and grandson, David was survived by several nieces and nephews which he cared deeply for.
David was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Downs; his brothers and sisters, Larry Downs, Jerry Downs, Philip Downs, Gary Downs, Carol Sue Burgess, and Sharon Kay Goins; and his close cousin and business partner, Tim Downs.
David’s legacy of hard work, kindness, humor, and unconditional love will live on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the GoFundMe account established by his daughter, Jessica, to assist Penny during this difficult time. https://gofund.me/451f5a5e9
