Ernest Lee Williams, 89, of Bardwell, Kentucky, passed away on December 18, 2025, at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. Ernest was born on February 28, 1936 to the late Ed and Merce Williams.

From an early age, EL learned the value of perseverance and integrity—principles that guided him throughout his life. He was a man of many talents and served in numerous roles throughout his life, including soil conservation and education as a teacher, coach and principal. A natural athlete, EL earned a basketball scholarship to Louisiana State University, where he balanced the demands of athletics and academics. After college, EL returned home to Bardwell and married the love of his life at the Bardwell Baptist Church parsonage, beginning a marriage grounded in faith and love. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army, returning home shortly before the birth of his son.

A devoted, lifelong member of Bardwell Baptist Church, he allowed his faith to shape every aspect of his life—his marriage, his work, and his relationships. He believed in serving others, living with honesty, and treating people with kindness, values he consistently put into practice.

EL spent an extraordinary 61 years in the banking industry at Citizens Deposit Bank. He loved people and had the ability to make anyone feel important.

Away from work, EL enjoyed the outdoors and the traditions he loved most. He was passionate about hunting—especially duck and quail—fishing, and raising bird dogs. He was also a loyal University of Kentucky basketball fan, following the sport with enthusiasm throughout his life.

The greatest joy of EL's life was his family. He worked side by side with his son for nearly four decades, building both a career and a lifelong bond. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and to them he was lovingly known as “Dardie.” EL never forgot his roots and quietly helped others whenever he could.

Ernest Lee Williams will be remembered for his strong character, quiet generosity, and unwavering faith. His influence will continue to be felt through the many lives he touched and the family and church he so dearly loved.

Ernest Lee is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia Williams; his son, Ricky (Jami) Williams of Bardwell; two grandchildren, Abagail (Noah) Norsworthy of Paducah, and Jackson Williams of Bardwell; and one great-grandchild, Noble Norsworthy.

He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Ed Payne Williams and Gordon Williams; and his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Bardwell Baptist Church, with Bro. Jason Burnett and Noah Norsworthy officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, in Bardwell, Kentucky.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the service time of 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Bardwell Baptist Church.
