Gary Scott Daugherty, 59, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after a long battle with kidney disease.
Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, Gary was the son of Hal and the late Judy Daugherty, brother to Gail Daugherty, nephew to Trudy and Ron Henrioulle, and cousin to his many. He is also survived by PJ Johnson, his sister-in-law, and his loving girlfriend, Candy Eldredge, who stood by his side throughout his illness.
At 6'5", Gary was hard to miss. Fortunately, he had the charm, smile, and great laugh to disarm anyone intimidated by his size. He loved music, singing, stand-up comedy, motorcycles, and firearms.
Gary cared deeply about his community and was elected to the Kane County Board for District 9, where he always believed in doing what was best for the people he represented.
He loved motorcycles and responsible firearm ownership. Teaching motorcycle safety, firearm safety, and concealed-carry classes brought him immense joy. He taught owning a firearm came with a tremendous responsibility. His love of motorcycles took him across the country, often to see his favorite stand-up comedians perform.
Gary had strong opinions, a curious mind, and an impressive supply of information at the ready. He laughed often, lived life very much on his own terms, and leaves behind plenty of people who will forever hear his voice telling them there is, in fact, a better way to do that.
Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.
There will be no formal service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gary's memory to the National Kidney Foundation.
